SoundHunter  -> performance (2025)

Live performance documentation, 1 screen video, 5:45 sec, 2 channel sound

This work is the result of a collaboration between a choreographer-director and five performers in choreography. The performance is based on the SoundHunter installation, which automatically and continuously collects and analyses sound in a 360° environment and turns a 16mm camera towards the loudest sound.

The performance environment is designed as a digital hunting ground and trap. Performers follow repetitive choreographed paths, which are interrupted by random ‘Trap’ commands delivered to their ears.

The image of the performers is based on the imagination of the Trojan Horse (a common computer virus) in digital space—stealthy, disruptive, to be hunted, a soldier wearing armour in the Trojan War. In the flashing space, black is stealthy and safe; the reflective armour deflects projections and lasers aim to disrupt the orderliness and causality of the digital space. Through intertextuality with real hunting grounds, to reflects on the hidden power dynamics between the aggressiveness of the camera and the ‘Command’ operation within computers.
